Matt Grant of The Great British Pasty and Pie Co. based in Ottawa, Canada, claimed the coveted Pasty Ambassador prize. Matt travelled more than 3,000 miles to compete for the second year running at the World Pasty Championships, leaving behind minus 30-degree temperatures to compete in the Cornish sunshine. Matt said: "It's unbelievable to be named the Pasty Ambassador. It's a very proud moment. I'll definitely come back next year, I love the people, everyone's so nice and there's a great community around pasties."   Read More

CTV Morning Live : Christmas Pasty

Found: A complete Christmas dinner in a pastry packet

What: A complete Christmas dinner in one savoury pastry packet, including oven-roasted turkey, gravy, potatoes and homemade stuffing studded with Upper Canada cranberries. Why: “I started making these for Christmas last year, and once people tasted them, they didn’t last very long,” says Arnprior’s Matt Grant, who started The Great British Pasty & Pie Co., two years ago, using Ottawa-area ingredients to make Cornish-style pasties. “Already this year I’ve sold 200 to 300 each market weekend.” Read the full article

DesBrisay Dines: The Ottawa Farmers’ Market’s Christmas Market

The Bird. Oh lordie, the bird! Have you ordered a fresh, local, pink-and-plump, contented-till-the-day-it-met-its-Maker variety bird? This is about avoiding the whole turkey thing — the ordering, queuing, collecting and lugging home, stuffing, trussing, roasting, (Is it done, good God is it done? How do I tell if it’s done?) making gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry jelly… Just how many years now have you been doing the damn Turkey Dinner my friend? Quite right. Too many. Read the full article

Pasty chef finishes fourth in international competition

An Arnprior baker makes the world’s fourth best pasty, a renowned British culinary creation.

Matt Grant of The Great British Pasty & Pie Co. - featured in a December 2014 issue of the Chronicle-Guide - recently returned from an international competition in Cornwall, England. He narrowly missed a top three finish by one point. Not bad for a mate who only took to cooking up the stuffed pastry pocket snacks less than two years ago.
